In response to a disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is likely to call thousands of housing inspectors into action to assess the damage to property. Inspectors must be ready to go into the field at a moment's notice, so it's important that they maintain the proper certification and continuing education credits that FEMA requires.
Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), a leading international engineering firm, is FEMA's agent in selecting, training, and certifying these housing inspectors. PB relies heavily on eLearning courses to help new inspectors get trained quickly and to enable scores of veteran inspectors to maintain their certifications.
Being able to easily update existing courses, rapidly develop new eLearning, and make content available to inspectors out in the field are all mission-critical to PB. So when it came time to find a new learning management system, PB selected Digitec's Knowledge Direct WEB®.
Knowledge Direct WEB gives PB an easy to use authoring tool for rapid eLearning development and a system that enables inspectors to download courses and view them online. Knowledge Direct WEB also provides a learning management system that is SCORM 1.2 conformant, with a built-in test bank and comprehensive reporting and certification tracking. Beyond certification, the system also enables inspectors to complete continuing education courses, remotely, using a tablet PC to take the eLearning and testing offline.
In addition to finding the right learning management system, PB wanted to take their eLearning courses to the next level. They wanted to use video clips to demonstrate inspection techniques and software simulations to enable inspectors to practice using the different tools they would need to collect inspection information and write their reports. Again, PB turned to Digitec for help. Using Knowledge Direct WEB's rapid courseware development tool, Direct-to-WEB, Digitec designed and developed the eLearning courses. The interactive media and instructional design team created new, more interactive eLearning courses for PB to keep their inspectors ready for any emergency.
