To create realism and engagement, learners play the role as a cleanroom technician applying for a position in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Learners must demonstrate their knowledge of cleanroom protocol, monitoring equipment to collect samples from the environment. Learners then review the collection results and “advise management” on the level of contamination in the facility’s cleanroom. Learners who perform well on various tasks are offered the position of cleanroom technician.
The application collects user data as learners participate in the course and provides the BioNetwork with reports on learners’ progress. The VLO has received high marks from the BioNetwork review panel for its photorealistic style and engaging instructional design and has exceeded the expectations of the college.

BioNetwork – a member of the North Carolina Community College System (NCCS), is a multi-campus biomedical training provider. BioNetwork specializes in designing interactive learning solutions for students preparing for careers in the pharmaceutical and life science industries.
To create the most comprehensive and engaging learning approach, NCCCS wanted a blended/hybrid online curriculum, with hands-on practical application and simulations for their continuing education courses.
THE SOLUTION
Digitec worked with BioNetwork to design and produce an immersive, scenario-based cleanroom simulation for the college program. The Virtual Learning Object (VLO) allows students to participate in hands-on practice of environmental monitoring in a safe environment using several types of monitoring equipment.
